Wall Hanging Complete!
After a year of hard work, Girton WI and residents have completed the Passing Through and Settling wall hanging. Thanks to everyone involved for their enthusiasm and creativity.
2015 Sunflower Trail
Following the success of last year’s sunflower trail, we are once again be asking residents to link their gardens with sunflowers in summer 2015.
2014
As part of its aim to help improve its community by offering a range of schemes and initiatives for individuals and organisations, Girton Town Charity (GTC) has announced a new Community Project which runs from May to October 2014. It has been designed as a lead-in to the opening of GTC’s Community Building in Wellbrook Way in 2015, encouraging all ages to get involved and create a stronger community network.

Saturday 3rd May: Girton Garden Society Plant Sale (with a stall dedicated to self-seeding plants)
Sunday 4th May: Dawn Chorus (with sonograms and breakfast!)
Monday 5th May: One Minute Birdwatching (at 10 locations throughout the village)
Saturday 12th July: Bird Drawing Challenge (a public attempt to draw each of the 130 bird species ever spotted in Girton)
Thursday 24th July: private workshop with Girton Youth Project (painting in Girton Wood)
Wednesday 30th July: private event for Cambridge Academy of English students (developing a ‘Girton Bird Book’)
August: Sunflower Trail, with online MAP
Tuesday 23rd September: Candle lit labyrinth
Monday 27th October: Bird Drawing Challenge (Round 2)
Tuesday 28th October: Planet Birdsong
Saturday 1st November: Pop-up Exhibition
Ongoing: A Girton Wallhanging (a wallhanging project by the WI)
Ann Bonnett from GTC said: “We are delighted to be announcing our Passing Through and Settling Community Project which will have long-term and permanent results including a new Girton walking trail, with benches and rubbing plaques, which will be inaugurated as part of the opening of our new building. ‘One Minute Bird Watching’ was chosen from a list of suggestions for the launch event as it can encompass all ages and doesn’t require any previous bird watching knowledge. It will also encourage participants to be more aware of the birdlife that passes through and settles in the various village locations.”
